When will the PRT Close?

As agreed by President Karzai and the international community, all PRTs across Afghanistan will close by the end of 2014, in keeping with developing Afghan sovereignty and transition.  This includesHelmand.  

During the remainder of its presence in Helmand, the PRT will focus on supporting the Government of Afghanistan (GoA) to reach inclusive political settlements underpinned by good governance, strong rule of law and sustainable development in line with GoA national ministry strategies, standards and priorities.

The drawdown will be planned to ensure that the GoA priority areas within development, justice and governance in Helmand are sustainable, and increasingly Afghan led in the run up to 2014.
